December 17, 2008 – Microsoft Philippines today unveiled the first Windows Technology Zone (Windows TechZone) at EGG-Netopia in SM Mall of Asia. The TechZone aims to give consumers direct access to the latest Windows-based gadgets and Microsoft products and solutions that will allow users to increase productivity, work effectively and stay better connected to each other.

“Microsoft is bringing to the consumers tools that will equip them in living the digital lifestyle. Gone are the days when business executives are confined to their workplaces.  All the necessary tools that people need in their mobile lifestyle can be seen and experienced at the Windows TechZone,” said Sam Jacoba, Unlimited Potential Group Lead, Microsoft Philippines.

The Windows TechZone is a one-stop hub showcasing latest Microsoft technologies and innovation that will enhance the consumers’ lifestyle based on their needs, wants and interest.  With the theme “Life Without Walls”, the Windows TechZone also aims to show how users can link up with their colleagues and loved ones through Windows-based technology.  This unveiling marks the beginning of the Windows TechZone roadshow which will be deployed in all qualified Netopia branches nationwide in the coming year.

According to Jacoba, the Windows TechZone is being piloted in the Philippines due to Filipinos’ desire to always be in touch with their family and peers. “We are continually exploring initiatives that bank on the power of technology to address people’s needs and improve the way we live. Through the Unlimited Potential program, we make sure that these solutions are easily available to everyone,” he said.

Microsoft Unlimited Potential (UP) is a worldwide initiative that aims to enable sustained social and economic development by ensuring that all people benefit from ICT that is relevant, accessible, and affordable. In addition to the Windows Techzone, Microsoft through UP, introduces pioneer solutions that transform education, foster local innovation and create opportunities.

“The Windows TechZone is also a first for Netopia and we’re very happy that Microsoft chose to partner with us in making their technology more accessible to the consumers.  Getting to experience the revolutionary Windows-based technologies at the TechZone will certainly generate interest among our customers,” shared George Tan, President, Netopia.

Throughout the implementation of the program, Microsoft and Netopia will apply different themes and scenarios per season and occasion every six weeks and showcase different sets of Microsoft hardware and software products. The theme for the month of December is “Have a PC Christmas” where Microsoft is offering consumers Windows-based gadgets that are ideal gifts for their loved ones this season.

The first Windows TechZone at SM Mall of Asia showcases current Windows-based gadgets and consumer electronics including computers, cell phones, video games, cameras as well as software and solutions.  One of the solutions catering to mobility highlighted in the exhibit is Windows Mobile, a Microsoft operating system for mobile phones.

“All the products in our Windows TechZone are developed to address user productivity and enhance mobility. Filipino consumers are becoming very inclined to the digital lifestyle; we want to provide them with a single gadget that will enable them to meet their needs throughout their day, whether it’s connecting to work or everyday life. And that’s what Windows Mobile is all about. We want the technology that exists today to become tools of productivity and empowerment for our consumers,” added Jacoba.

The Windows TechZone has combined almost everything the enthused techie consumer is interested in. Microsoft has worked on providing technological offerings that include features related to entertainment, memories and communication in a PC and OS as well as devices like mobile phones and netbooks that consumers want to have.

The Windows Technology Zone “Have a PC Christmas” theme is showcased at Netopia, Ground Floor, Entertainment Hall, SM Mall of Asia until January 16, 2009.
